Crossrail must be very clever because they are going to divert the right of way, footpath 123, down Crow Lane.  What good will that do us?

C.A.G. Reply: A small group of C.A.G. members met with James Ryan this evening and the subject of footpath 123 was raised.  Apparently someone from Crossrail has counted the number of people using the footpath, and they conclude that it is not well used and so it can be closed.  We have passed this information to Michael Cullen, of the the Footpaths Association, for his consideration.

Please see the issued material page for Crossrail's answers to C.A.G.'s 100 questions, which were presented to them at the House of Commons (14/09/04).  Don't get too excited though.

Hi All.  Just a word about the trees.  I have lived in Sheringham Ave. for 22 years and have watched those trees grow.  They were not near the Running Track and there are more trees nearer the track in other places that could do with removing or trimming.  For instance, the trees along the embankment near Sheringham Ave are much closer to the line but most of them are on private land where Network Rail can't get to them.  They will get a better price for the land if it is cleared first.  It's the same as when people sell houses; you would get a better price for your house if you have a nice neat garden then if it was a jungle. I say to Crossrail, "maintenance my foot!"

C.A.G. Reply: Thanks for your observations.  It's obviously a very controversial subject and one that we may never get to the bottom of.

Hi .  Just got a response back from Crossrail on the disappearing trees, as follows:-
"Crossrail was in no way responsible for the removal of trees in the Romford area. It is understood that vegetation was cleared by Network Rail for railway safety and maintenance purposes. The normal rule of thumb is that line side vegetation is removed where large leafed species of trees and shrubs are cleared to prevent loss of wheel adhesion as well as, and more seriously, loss of track circuit detection, where the trees are growing within 12 metres of nearest rail.  Regrettably, Crossrail has received many complaints on the misunderstanding that we were responsible. Crossrail does not have the authority to carry out any such work"
So looks like they weren't responsible for this one.  Keep up the good work C.A.G. - any news yet on possible fund raising events?

C.A.G. Reply: Thanks Julie, that's great. The newsletters have only just been delivered and we hope that offers of help will begin coming in.

I have just read (on the online petition) about the person who is so upset about this Crossrail Depot in Romford she is seriously thinking of moving.  Would it not be a good idea for all the people to seek out what sort of response they would get from the estate agents and that would start the ball rolling.  To me the people around this part of Romford are still not interested in what is going on around them.  What do you think?

C.A.G. Reply:  Thank you Ron.  We know that someone has looked into this matter and we will ask them to respond to your message.

Hello.  Just wanted to say how informative the C.A.G. newsletter was. It's just what's needed to spread awareness of what is going on, to all the affected households. Also, would like to say well done to Hayley Smith for the impressive letter she had printed in last weeks Havering Post. I think what she wrote echoes what many of us are feeling since the announcement of this abomination!

C.A.G. Reply: Thanks for your feedback.  We're glad that the newsletter had proved popular.  It is our aim to keep residents updated with a newsletter from time to time as we are fully aware that not everybody has internet access.

Hi Its me again.  I have just (04/10/04, 14:20hours) attended a hospital appointment at the Queen Mary's Block at Oldchurch Hospital.  Whilst there I looked out of their window over looking over the site where Crossrail want to build their depot, and to my amazement I saw four refuge trucks and a load of these large wheelie bins.  There was one red, two green and four maybe five yellow, the yellow bins looked like they had the same sign on the side as the hospital CLINICAL WASTE bins have.   I am not saying that they are these bins as I could not make out the writing on them or the refuge trucks. I am attending another appointment at the same place next Monday 11/11/04 at 10am and if I remember I will take my camera, and if they are still there I will take a few pictures.  This raises questions on what type of land fill will have to live with???

C.A.G. Reply:  We are aware that an area of Transco land has been given over for the storage of catering waste management lorries.  These are modified dustbin lorries and this is probably what you have seen.  By all means take some pictures at your next appointment and we can make sure.  How observant though, keep up the fab work!

In reply to the last message from Bob Sinfield; he had an idea of taking photos of the view from your home etc, and putting them on C.A.G. Gallery.  Very good idea, and I have one as well.  Another suggestion.  Why doesn't everybody put a poster in their car window, like a couple of people down our road have done.  The poster could be seen by more drivers and perhaps that could tell Crossrail THAT WE DO NOT WANT THE DARN DEPOT HERE IN ROMFORD!!  Any more good ideas anyone??

Not sure if this may be of interest but, now that there is a C.A.G Gallery, it may be of interest to some residents living near the railway or the proposed site to take a photo or two of the view from their window(s) that maybe spoilt if the go ahead for this monster is given.  It may also be some more ammunition for the fight against Crossrail.  I'm sure by now that most residents have access to a digital camera (family/ friends) if not maybe something could be arranged.  I wonder if anyone else can come up with some more idea's to help the fight They may sound silly but could help brain storm other idea's.  Well that 's enough from me. Have fun, keep safe.

C.A.G. Reply: Thanks for your idea!  New ideas are always welcome and we hope that people feel comfortable enough to come forward with theirs.  No idea is silly to us and will always be gratefully received.  Remember, we are all in this together.
