Hi all. Just wanted to say a thank you to those who ran the volunteers meeting at St Agnes Hall on Saturday. Alan's ecology speech was superb - very inspiring!!

Can I just ask the lady who has been to the citizen's advise for some more information. Is it advisable that we all get our houses valued at present - has anyone been in contact with the local estate agents to gauge what the current view is? I have noticed that my next door neighbour's house has been reduced dramatically in price, already and it has only been on the market a few weeks - this is not looking good! Was wondering if it would be a good idea to hand out leaflets at the Romford station one evening - you could target thousands of local people who may still not be aware - if we concentrated on the traffic and disruption issues then maybe we could get a broader support. If you need a volunteer to photocopy and hand them out then I really wouldn't mind. Keep up the pressure CAG. Julie.

C.A.G. Reply: Thank you for your message. I hope the lady in question see's your message and is able to answer you regarding Estate Agents. As to handing out leaflets at the Station, your suggestion will appear on the agenda at the next Committee Meeting.

I have been looking at the Ecology page and I have noticed two species that I think are missing from the list.
1) Red Ant - these are found on Westlands Rough
2) Leaf Cutting Bee - these turned up two years ago in my garden. They bred in my wife's flower pots. If they are in my garden they could well be in other parts of Romford. I will keep my eyes peeled next June/July. If anyone else has rose type leaves in or near their garden, that have a neat semi-circular shaped section removed from them, they too may have been visited by these 10 - 13mm bees. For more information just put 'Leaf Cutter Bees' into a search engine.
I believe there may be other species missing from the list so keep an eye out everyone. We may even have King Newts.

C.A.G. Reply: Bob, Many thanks for taking the time to look over our ecology page. We are aware that there are many more species on Westlands Rough that are not yet recorded on our Ecology Page. We are relying on people like yourself to report sightings so we can add them. Once spring is here the wildlife and plants will start to flourish again and I am sure that we will be adding many more species to our list during 2005. Your observations are noted and I will enquire regarding the leaf cutting bees.
Some entomologists are coming over to Westlands Rough in May 2005 to study the insects. Alan.

I am writing in response to all the complaints about the state of the railway embankment along footpath 123, where the new fence has been erected by Blyth on behalf of Network Rail.  Along with a few other Action Group members, I have written to both the Managing Director of Blyth to complain about the debris left behind by their workmen and also to Havering Streetcare about the fact that the signpost has been taken down at the junction of Footpath 123 with Jutsums Lane.  Ron Treslove has provided the website with some very good photo's of the area and I have forwarded those to both.  I am awaiting a reply from Blyth but Streetcare have assured us that the signpost will be reinstated as soon as possible.  I will, of course, let everyone know if I ever receive a reply from Blyth.

I am a member of "IPMS Hornchurch" ( International Plastic Modellers Society) and we have two main Shows a year, one in March at Hornchurch, and one in May at Dagenham. We meet every 3rd Monday in the month, so when we meet this month I will ask the chairman and event manager if C.A.G. can have a awareness table set up at these events, I will pass on the contact telephone number and e-mail address from the C.A.G. web site plus the website address. Although this will not raise money it will spread the word. Speak to you soon.

C.A.G. Reply: Thanks Bob, any help in making people aware would be good.

I think my Dad is brilliant by trying by to protect the green belt and wildlife, so us, the next generation can enjoy it. Well done Dad!!!!!!! Keep up the good work!!!

C.A.G. Reply: We think that your Dad is great too.  He is lucky too though, to have such a lovely family that appreciate and support him.

Regarding Footpath 123 - I also think the Blyth Group left the embankment in a terrible state.  I actually did observe one of the workman who was standing by his truck in Beechfield Gardens,  throwing his empty 2 litre coke bottle up onto the railway embankment.
Perhaps he was told by Crossrail how we take any rubbish that is thrown at us in Romford!!!!
In light of railway safety etc, I couldn't believe they left the old concrete fence posts just scattered on the embankment - Headlines for the future in the Recorder 'Train Derailed By Lumps of Concrete On Lines' - too scary to contemplate.  Keep up the good work C.A.G.

C.A.G. Reply: Thank you Denise you make some good points there.

RE: Message 50...The sign showing Footpath 123 at Jutsums Park has been dug up and slung to the side of the access road.  It is lying on the floor. This could have been done by the Council workmen when they replaced the fence at Jutsums Park.  I am asking the council to replace the footpath sign back to where it was.  It will be interesting to see the reply and whether they ripped it out or whether the railway contractor did.

C.A.G. Reply: Thank you Alan.  We'd be very interested to hear any response that you might get.

RE: Message 51...
When Barbara contacts Blyth Group Ltd, could she tell them that DUMPING is illegal and to clear all the unwanted and broken fencing that they so kindly left behind after the so called repairs.  On another note has anyone seen the markings in the underpass, they seem to be the same kind of markings painted on roads and foot paths before they are dug up.  Does anyone know what these markings mean?

C.A.G. Reply:  Bob, when you say underpass, do you mean Nursery Walk or Jutsums Lane?

About the 123 Footpath, I would like to know why the railway has opened up the the footpath by at least a yard or two, put brand new very expensive fencing up all along the path, yet Crossrail have said that they are going to do away with it and reroute it down Crow Lane.  Am I going nuts or something?  Do they really know what they are doing?  It must have cost thousands of pounds.

C.A.G. Reply: Thank you Ron!  You make a very good point.  Barbara is going to write a letter to Blyth Group LTD who put the fencing up, to complain about the state that they have left the embankment in and will include your points in the letter.

Ron
