Opposing the Crossrail Plan for Romford & Chadwell Heath
Pay Attention Mr Blair! Andrew Rosindell M.P. writes to Mr Blair for ignoring C.A.G's Petition

Andrew Rosindell is furious at the
dismissive response given to the Romford Crossrail Action Group's petition by
Prime Minister Tony Blair.
The M.P. received a cursory note from Downing Street from a "Katie Newell"
acknowledging the receipt of the petition dated the 20th September. Not only
did the note not give any clue as to who this Katie Newell was, but her
signature was scanned in rather than actually signed.
It seems very unlikely that the Prime Minister has even seen the petition!
The M.P. stated that he was "extremely disappointed" with the response to the
petition and has written a strongly worded letter to the Prime Minister
demanding that he take the concerns of the Crossrail Action Group and all local
residents, seriously.
He said that if concerned residents could take the time to collect and collate
the petition when they have other calls on their time such as work or school,
then the Prime Minister whose sole job it is to represent the people of this
country should have the time to listen to the deep anxieties of the people of
Romford.
Andrew said:
"Prime Minister Blair cannot continue to ignore the concerns of the people of
Romford. As the Member of Parliament for the effected area, I totally oppose a
Crossrail depot at the suggested location. The decision to site it in a
residential area is completely unacceptable when there are other sites that
would be more appropriate. Mr Blair's response is frankly rude and an insult to
the Crossrail Action Group who have worked tirelessly on this campaign.
I will continue to give my support to the Crossrail Action Group and fight in
any way I can to stop this ludicrous proposal by the Labour government and
Crossrail."

Dear Prime Minister
I am writing to say how extremely disappointed I was to receive your response of
the 20th September 2004 following the presentation of a 2,200 strong petition to
the door of No. 10 by the Romford Crossrail Action Group.
My constituents had taken an enormous amount of time and effort to collect and
collate their petition and many of them had taken time off work in order to
attend the presentation.
To receive your rather dismissive note with a scanned signature from a "Katie
Newell" as a response to their problems was I felt not only rude, but
highlighted the lack of regard or interest your government has for their
plight.
My constituents are deeply concerned about the impact the proposed Crossrail
depot in Romford will have on their lives, as residents, pupils at the nearby
school and as users of the local common land and they had at least hoped for a
serious acknowledgement of their concerns.
Whilst I appreciate that you have many important issues to deal with everyday, I
hope you understand how depressing such a response will be to my constituents
I would therefore be grateful if you could read their petition and listen
seriously to the major anxieties that they have. I would also urge you, along
with the Secretary of State for Transport, to ask Crossrail to urgently
reconsider their plans for Romford.
I look forward to your response with interest.
Yours sincerely
Andrew Rosindell M.P.
