No 'Rubber Stamp' for Crossrail!
Andrew Rosindell M.P. has, this week, warned the Crossrail Parliamentary Group
Chairman that the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Crossrail should not
become a rubber stamping group that would back whatever Crossrail proposes to do
Labour M.P.s are backing Crossrail in an extremely uncritical way and Andrew has
called for a politically neutral debate so that the proposals will be properly
examined with the aim that they should be beneficial to London and especially to
Romford.
Andrew has challenged the APPG Chairman, Michael Gapes M.P. (Ilford South), to
guarantee that the Group will not simply back Crossrail blindly as it had done
under the previous Chairman, ex-M.P. Linda Perham and listen to the views of
people across London. Most would like to see a cross-London transport link, but
are concerned about the effects of Crossrail on local people and whether the
Crossrail scheme is actually the best use of public money.
Andrew has had numerous meetings with local residents of Romford who are voicing
these concerns and has worked closely with the Shadow Transport Team to suggest
proposals to minimise the negative impacts of Crossrail on local people across
the capital.
Andrew said:
"I believe it is vital that London's transport links are updated, but we must do
this with the incentive of best value for money and least negative impacts on
local people.
The All Party Parliamentary Group has often ignored the concerns of effected
residents and uncritically swallowed whole everything that Crossrail has fed to
it.
We must make sure that, whatever scheme is put in place, it is the best solution
for London and I will fight to make sure it it's the best for Romford and will
continue to work closely with the Romford Crossrail Action Group (C.A.G.) to
ensure this happens.
