Crowlands Action Group
Victory For C.A.G.
Statement from the Chairman
On behalf of Romford Crossrail Action Group I would like to put on record our delight following the decision reached by the Select Committee to accept the amendment put forward by the Department for Transport to make use of existing railway locations thus removing the need for a depot and additional facilities at Romford.
Over the last two and a half years the committee and its supporters have worked tirelessly to prevent the blight, long term disruption and undoubted congestion that this scheme would have brought to our town.
We have always argued that we objected to the proposed location of the depot not only because of the inconvenience and distress it would have bought to hundreds of residents in an already overdeveloped area but also as it was an extremely costly option. In our petition we suggested that a much less complex and expensive option was to use existing facilities at Old Oak Common in West London and we are thrilled that the Select Committee have ruled in our favour.
I would like to extend my thanks to the committee members, local MP’s and all of the local residents who supported us and helped raise funds to fight our cause.

| We are writing to say a big thank you to all the committee of C.A.G. for the very sterling work you all did in getting the Crossrail project moved to the existing facilities at Old Oak Common. We really do not know how much time and effort it took to change this decision, but we really do appreciate the difference it will make to our area of Romford (so often forgotten in the throes of things). Please pass on our sincere thanks and best wishes to all the committee. | Mr & Mrs Constable |
| Such good news and that means that Westlands is spared as well. You have all worked so hard and deserve some kind of recognition for your effects. Well done! | Sue and Andy |
| Well done you have all worked so hard for that. I am so pleased for you. | Rhiannon |

Well I have to say I never thought this pig headed thing
we call a Labour government would break. All I can say is well done!!
Now see if you can petition for free travel for under 30's, just once I
would like a free bus ride!!! |

We have enjoyed working on this project (and no doubt
will continue to do so!!). It has been a challenging matter at
times but we feel that we have secured the right outcome for the Borough
and for residents in the vicinity. I'm sure that the Group can
take great pleasure and pride in their role in the process, too.
Best wishes for the future. |

Wow ! I am delighted. Isn't it good when a few
people point out how much more sensible an alternative location will be
and a big company takes note ? It gives me a warm glow. I know it
has been hard work for you all though. Drink plenty of champagne.
Best wishes to everyone at C.A.G! |

Congratulations from New Zealand on the campaign C.A.G. I'm
delighted that a better solution has been found. I hope that

Well done C.A.G, it has been a long battle and even when
the outlook was most bleak the determination of the committee and
campaign supporters was heartening to behold. The resolute
determination of the campaign committee supported by the people of
Romford does show that ordinary people can by extraordinary effort
achieve an outstanding victory. A good result for local democracy
in the truest sense of the word. |

Well done to
everyone for fighting
the fight. I have no
doubt that without you
we would
have had the depot on
our doorstep. Congratulations

well deserved and you

proud of yourselves and

you have achieved. I hope that you all manage to celebrate in style and I will be certainly raising a glass to you this coming weekend. |

Dear Cllr Benham, I have just received notification from the Crossrail Action Group that Havering, and specifically the Brooklands ward, is going to be spared the blight that would have been the Crossrail Depot. I am certain this victory has only been achieved by the hard work and dedication of all those involved in the CAG, who took it upon themselves to defend our ward and borough in the face of adversity whilst many of their fellow residents (myself included) sat back and let them get on with it. I think that they should be recognised by the borough in some way and wondered if you can suggest this to the powers that be or come up with an idea of how this can be achieved. I look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards, Sue |
